Tough result after such good all round play…..

Today’s squad Josh, Theo, Edonis, Tom, Morgan, Callum, Connor, Louie, Kevin,Gabe, Reynolds, Jonathan, Faizan,Jack.

Apologies if i get anything wrong as i was busy try to referee the game, but over all i thought you were really good. We started out well and had the first few half chances Gabe and Reynolds both unlucky on a couple of occasions. The back three looked strong at the start as we knew they were always going to play the ball long at any chance. However after about 10 minutes they broke down our left, a couple soft challenges and the forward was in on goal. He placed it in the far corner rather than power and made 1.0 very much against the run of play.

We still had more of the ball and played the better football and created some really good chances. Finally we got the goal our play deserved. The ball initially came down the right with Theo/Gabe and got played across the box. Faizan brought the ball back in and played it across the six yard line. The defender miss kicked it, Louie dummied it 😉 and Gabe tapped into a empty net 1.1

We still had some more chance Jonathan had one tipped over the bar and a couple of scrambles in their penalty area but it just wouldn’t go in Half time 1.1

Second half started very much in the same vain a short corner by Faizan and Louie ended with a cross/shot from Faizan going in. Good goal, good work and variation on what we were doing in training. 1.2. For the next 15 minutes we gad most the play. Reynolds was unlucky with a Lob as the keeper came out, Theo put one just wide. But the main thing for me were that we had a good shape in the back three and three in the middle of the park. Chances came and went and eventually we paid the price. From a corner initial ball was cleared but the second not challenged quick enough a soft shot back in somehow crept under Josh’s feet 2.2.

The next 10 minutes i have to say was all Olympiacos they put a couple of chances wide and very soon it was 3.2. Another corner first ball was cleared second ball not closed quicker enough and another soft shot crept in at the near post.

Last 10 minutes was helter skelter it felt more like a cup match than a friendly. No one argued no ones head dropped you all really tried. Another quick corner from Connor and Louie fell to Jack who smashed it in 3.3

Chances still came Connor put one wide after good play by Reynolds, Gabe was unlucky with a good shot and Reynolds had one saved by the keeper that was going in the corner. If anything you all pushed up too much and got caught on the counter attack. We had a couple of chance just to clear the threat but we dallied to much. 4.3

Last two minutes we pushed everyone forward a couple of well taken corners but still the ball wouldn’t drop in. With the ref about to blow time a penalty was given as the player tried to clear the ball with his arm. After a while the penalty was taken by Kevin who tried to place it in the corner but it went just wide Final Score 4.3 Unlucky………

MoTM: Theo had a really good first half as a wing back, But i am going to give it to Edonis he played really well the first 60 mins ,dealt with lots of high ball and covered the wing backs really. I though you all played excellent today, this team got promoted but if you asked a neutral to pick which team it was that got promoted they probably would of said us.

A comfortable friendly……..

Today’s squad Josh, Jack, Morgan, Edonis, Tom, Theo, Louis, Faizan, Kevin, Gabe, Jonathan, Reynolds, Joel, Connor and Joey

The main idea about today’s game was to try some different ideas and practice what we have done in training. Firstly we started with a 5.3.2 formation playing wing-backs for the match. Secondly we wanted to improve our corners both defending and attacking.

The first goal came from good work down the left the ball was played into Gabe who passed the ball into the back of the net. From then on we were the dominant team. Five minutes later Louis broke through the middle and also passed the ball into the back of the net 2.0

After fifteen minutes a corner from Faizan and Louis met it at the near post to make it 3.0 good to see our corner practice had paid off. Tom had 30 yard shot well saved by the keeper and Jonathan was unlucky with a couple of his chances. Just before half-time Gabe made it 4.0 with a nice finish.

Second half we started well and again had them on the back foot. Reynolds had a couple of chances to score but was unlucky. Josh then made a nice double save as they broke after an attack. soon after we had number 5. A short corner between Connor and Louis ended with Kevin finishing well 5.0

It was around here that we had a controversial point. Theo broke really well down the right played the ball across/back for Jonathan to finish. However the goal was given for offside but to be offside the ball has to be played forward!!!!

At this point Nick made some changes and allowed him to try players in different positions.Gabe finally got his hat-trick with another good break 6.0 Number 7 was soon to follow as Gabe fired in at the back post after another corner. Connor then nearly scored after Reynolds broke down the right as the keeper made a good save.

With 5 minutes to go Reynolds got his goal that his play had deserved a good through ball and he calmly placed the ball past the keeper 8.0. However this was not to be the last goal as everyone seemed to switch off for the last minute and straight from center they scored a consolation goal 😦 8.1 This was really unlucky as the defense and Josh had played really well all game and deserved a clean sheet. Also Josh’s goal kicks were much better.

MoTM i thought most of you played well today. First half the middle three drifted to wide or forward together at times its important when we play three that one person always holds.We did get lucky a few times as you all pushed forward looking to score in the second half and we left our selves short at the back keep your shape and ensure you are goal side. Theo played really well the second half and i am giving it to him.

Training tomorrow night at the Rugby pitch let Nick or myself know if you cannot come.

Definitely an End of season game…….

Today’s squad was Josh, Callum, Edonis, Kevin, Jack, Theo, Joey, Faizan, Reynolds, Joel, Gabe, Tom, Connor, Morgan and Louis

Nick rang the changes to give a few players more game time and to see how they would respond in the starting line up with next season already in his thoughts.

Unfortunately you all started like you were still in bed. On the first attack we had three chances to clear yet took none of them eventually the ball fell to there winger who played the ball across and it hit Jack and it went into the goal 0.1 after approx 45 seconds. This then led to painfull 15 minutes, you were all so quite no one was calling for the ball, no challenges were made we didn’t attack the ball. They nearly scored a couple more times with long balls down the middle, we didn’t attack the ball, let in bounce over our heads for them to run onto goal but Josh was on his toes which enabled him to stop the danger.

After 17 minutes Nick switched all around and we started to take more control on the game. Gabe and Reynolds both had some half chances but nothing concrete. Best chance of the half fell to Gabe after a great free kick from Edonis but the goalie saved well. Whilst we had more of the ball we found it difficult to create any real chances. Morgan defended really well at centre half and to push us forward as often as possible, but they played a high line and we fell offside far too often. Half time 0.1

Second half and Nick changed it around again to give some players more game time in different position. This half you came out battling and wanting to win and we had the pressure from the word go. Still though the chances were few, Tom got taken out when he was put through, from the free kick Louis brought a good save from the keeper.

Free kicks seemed to be our best chance, Edonis put one over the bar and had another cleared on the line by the defender. With Five minute to go we had our best chance the ball rolled across penalty box by Gabe, It looked like Edonis was going to smash it in but he seemed to just tap it, which gave the defender time to clear it off line. We had a couple shouts for penalties but i think the Referee had taken a vow of silence and not been to “Spec Savers”. No matter what we threw at the opposition which included the Kitchen sink we just couldn’t get the goal you play deserved. On a serious note if the game was crucial then we probably wouldn’t have played Jack, Morgan and Edonis up front but its important the boys enjoy there football and that everyone does what is asked. All the players gave 100% in that second half no matter what position they were asked to play. Well done all of you. Full time 0.1

MoTM : This week it went to Louis he worked really hard and played some nice balls through and i thought he created a chance in the last minute that was going to give us the draw and i think he even took a punch in back for the team.

There is no game next week or the week after (Easter) but we will try to get a couple friendlies in April.

Very very unlucky ………

Today’s squad Josh, Kevin, Morgan, Edonis, Tom, Louie, Joey, Faizan, Connor, Joel, Charney, Reynolds, Callum and Theo

Afternoon kick-off again and the rain just held off. We started the game really well and in the first five minutes Charney was causing them problems at the back with his pace latching on to a long ball and forcing the keeper into a good save. Very soon another chance fell to Charney and he put it over the ball. Mean while back in the defence we were looking good. Morgan had a great match in reading the game and was constantly intercepting the ball with Tom,Edonis and Kevin all looking solid and providing a good platform to push forward with.

After about 15 minutes Charney broke again after a neat through ball from Connor and probably his best chance but the shot went wide of the post. With ten minutes to go we all got caught by a long ball over the top and the striker ran onto it and shot outside the box into the top corner. 0.1

The next chance again fell to us Callum flicked the ball on and it was played into the box where Theo had a chance cleared off the line. Josh then made two great sweeper/keeper clearances to keep the score down. Half-time 0.1

Second half seemed to start a bit slowly and we were on the back foot for the first ten or so minutes. Eventually the pressure told and they broke down the right and scored too make it 0.2. Twenty five minute to go and now you all seemed to wake up. We pressured up higher on the pitch Nick changed it to 4.4.2 and wee seemed to regain control.Faizan had a run and shot that went wide and Charney was unlucky and the keeper made about two or three really great saves. With twenty minutes gone we got a lifeline a good run by Faizan into the box and the referee a judged that the tackle was unfair – Penalty – It may of been a soft penalty but it was given. Connor took it low and hard to the right, but the keeper guessed right and dived to get a good hand to it, he then got up quickly to foil Reynolds on the follow up. However Reynolds soon got the goal the play deserved, A great shot from just outside the box as the keeper came rushing out made it 1.2

The last ten minutes it was all HW & W Nick switched it too 3.5.2 to try and get the draw and to be honest i thought you would. Charney had a definite penalty not given after he was taken out by the keeper. We had a few other half efforts but just couldn’t find a way through. They nearly did score a third in the last minute but Josh made a great save and then they kicked it at Josh when it was easier to score the rebound.

MoTM – Morgan had a really good game at the back and i thought Charney had a great 20 minutes at the start of the first, But i gonna give to Connor who worked really hard in midfield today, constantly pushing the ball forward, unlucky with the penalty and didn’t let his head drop after the save.

Everyone should be pleased they were supposedly from a division above but on a different day you could of won by 2 or 3 goal. Well done everyone

Training is on the grass tomorrow night so see you there. So BOYS who ever is their first please grab two goals.

A bit out of sorts …….

Today’s squad was Josh, Charney, Morgan, Edonis, Kevin, Faizan, Connor, Louis, Tom, Reynolds, Gabe, Theo, Jack, Callum.

Lets get the Ref bit out of the way first, he was awful, didn’t know the rules and was very bias….. Gary and Waj had thankless task of linesman because he never used them. But thanks guys.

The match well all over the place really we started OK Gabe and Reynolds causing a few problems at the start but we allowed them to cause us to many issues through mistakes. With a poor ball, bouncy pitch and strong wind you must all attack the ball and don’t let it bounce. We also got carried away by the oppositions long ball tactics and let ourselves be drawn into a long ball game ourselves. We by-passed the midfield far to often we are better passing the ball, dribbling and playing it wide. It was when we played the ball down the left we got a goal. Gabe drove into the box and shot past the keeper 1.0

Very soon after you all switched off from a corner no one marked and they scored a free header, Two players will still strolling back to defend when the kick-off was taken ! 1.1

Play carried on , we had for me a clear penalty not given with a hand ball on the line and should of had another when they pushed one of you in the box for a penalty. Half-time 1.1

Second half we picked our game up a bit and pushed them back more. However they hit us on the break the ball was cleared for a throw on , but we failed to mark any of there players as they took a quick throw. He ran towards goal and Josh was a hesitant in coming off his line the ball was lobbed over him as Edonis almost cleared it off the line 2.1.

Josh made up for slight error with a fine save soon after that kept us in the game. From her you rallied again and started to dominate more. Faizan had a good run and shot that went just wide, Tom also had a shot wide but we just were not hitting the target enough. However another break away and you almost conceded again. Callum made a good tackle and Reynolds looked to be clearing up, however a blatant foul was not given and they crossed to open goal only for the striker to blast over. (Should of gone to Spec Savers).

With Five minutes to go we got the equalizer after some sustained pressure and good work by Louis and Charney down the right the ball was played into the middle . The ball eventually fell to Connor who’s shot was saved , but Gabe was first to pounce on the rebound 2.2

Last five minutes it was all Hadley Wood but you just couldn’t fashion a decent opportunity.

MoTM – Edonis and Morgan both played well today but it just went to Morgan he blocked and closed down all match, putting his body on the line for the club. Total commitment.

Training will be on the Astro as its fuzball . If you cannot make it please let Nick or myself know.

A good hard fought friendly ……..

How happy am i that we played this morning and not at 2PM its pouring …..

Today squad Tom, Jack, Morgan, Edonis, Joey, Faizan, Kevin, Louis, Connor,Reynolds, Gabe, Jonathan, Charney & Joel

Due to no fixture we played the Foxes two divisions above us, unfortunately the foxes only had nine players so Joey and Charney played for them, so everyone could get a good run. Also with Josh away Tom went in goal for us.

The first half Herons kicked uphill and wind against , so we had a lot of pressure but for the first twenty minutes we kept them too long shots from outside the box. However at times we gave them far too much room and space. We needed to be closing down and tackling hard. Finally after 25 minutes the Foxes got the goal their pressure deserved a ball was worked into the box and an unmarked player finished well 1.0. After this we had a few half chances with Reynolds and Gabe finding space down the wings. 30 minutes gone and after some good work down the wing the ball is played in and deflected off Archie to score 2.0. With the second half almost over a really good free kick made in 3.0 HT

At half time nick changed it to 5 – 3 -2 and along with the slope and wind seemed to help. You all stopped showing them too much respect and got more stuck in. Unfortunately they broke from a corner and scored a good goal 4.0. The pleasing thing it would of been easy for you all to drop your heads but you all carried on and got the goal your second half play deserved. Some neat play between Louis and Connor set Gabe free down the left who cut inside his man and finished well at the far post. 4.1

Suddenly you were a different team. You all became more confident and started to play a lot better. Morgan and Edonis attacked the ball a lot more rather than sit back this seemed to help push the play into the Foxes half. In the space of 5 minutes Jonathan and three good chances after muscling his way through but just couldn’t finish. Tom made a fantastic triple save at one point then Faizan created a couple more chances robbing the defense and playing in Gabe. However against the run of a play a really good solo run and finish by “T” made it 5.1

Last five minutes and it was all pressure from the Herons from one corner Jack shot but it was cleared on the line, Frankie saved a really good free kick from Louis but finally the pressure told. Faizan played in a good corner and Kevin rose really well to put a thumping header in 5.2 FT

A little bit more belief in yourselves and a little less respect to the opponents you will all do fine against teams from higher divisions. I think a few of you had written off the game before it even began and it took our first goal for you all to realise that you all had a chance. When we play a higher division team in the next few weeks i want you all to believe you can win and give 110%

I guess training will be on the Astro tomorrow unless this rain continues, Nick will let you all know ASAP.

It was one of those days …….

Today’s  squad    was Josh, Louis, Morgan, Edonis, Callum, Theo, Faizan, Connor, Kevin, Reynolds, Gabe, Jack and Joey

We started well , passing the ball around and creating a few half chances, Gabe and Reynolds both were finding space behind the back four. The goalie made a couple really good saves from Gabe in the first ten minutes. However we were not to score first. The ball got played in behind and the defence and a rash challenge from Morgan gave away a penalty. To be honest is was the first thing any of the back four had had to do. The forward scored 0.1

The good thing was no one moaned but you all got on with it, and you got the goal your football deserved. It came from a throw and some neat passing between Gabe, Connor and Faizan ended with ball at Reynolds feet who drove forward and shot low and hard at the base of the post. A really nice goal also made more pleasing was that in the warm up we discussed shooting low and hard which was obviously taken aboard. 1.1

With five minutes of the half to go Reynolds this time broke down the right and got a early shot away which the goalie initially parried up but the ball drifted in and over the line 2.1 HT

Second half started but this time i felt we were slow to come out. They had the initial pressure and created a few early half chances. We struggled to get the ball forward quick enough, wide enough or just to our own players which constantly invited pressure on to ourselves. The pressure told and they scored a goal. Now most of you say the ball went out but we always tell you play to the Referees whistle. Everyone stopped, the ball literally trickled across the six yard box and everyone left it. Their winger came in unmarked and scored the easiest goal he will ever score 2.2

Fortunately this seemed to wake you up and we started to create some chance again, but the game was end to end. In the Last 15 minutes Edonis shot well from two corners that just hit defenders so unlucky. Josh made a great diving save from their free-kick. Kevin put two chances just wide and then they got another penalty ! Edonis was adjudged to have caught the man in the follow through (Very Harsh) However the striker went to put it into the Top Corner but instead blazed it over.

Last five minutes and Gabe had our best chance of the half he robbed the full back of the ball and drove into the box but shot high and wide when placing would of been better. We definitely finished the stronger and had about five corners in quick succession but it wasn’t to be. Final Score 2.2

MoTM went to Reynolds two goals and worked really hard in midfield. He got back helped the defense and looked dangerous in attack, But more importantly listened to advice 🙂

Well at least the weather was better than the first time we tried to play, but to be honest the pitch was still very heavy.

Today squad Josh, Jack, Morgan,Edonis,Callum,Joel,Connor,Faizan,Tom,Gabe,Reynolds, Joey, Kevin

Nick started with a 4.4.2 formation to try and exploit the size of the pitch with Reynolds and Gabe’s pace. It started well and Gabe had a couple half chances. Reynolds took one early with his left and was just wide all in the first ten minutes. We then came under pressure for about five minutes as they had four corners in quick succession. It was during this phase that we let a goal in against the run of play there number 10 drifted to the edge of the box, picked the ball up and shot really good goal. However the ref had missed a foul on Faizan in the build up so a bit unlucky. 1.0

Nick changed it as we were being over run in the middle 3 v 2 so he dropped Joey in as the anchor and we reverted to a more familiar 4.1.4.1. The chance began again. Very soon we were back level, a corner by Faizan was flicked in by Edonis. 1.1

Gabe had a few more chance and switched with Tom to outside left to give him more space as every time he went forward the linesman would give offside even if he was or not. Connor picked the ball up played a neat one two with Faizan and then played the ball up Tom who placed it home, really nice goal. 1.2  With five minutes of the half left we got a free kick, Tom played it in and Gabe neatly volleyed it in. 1.3 Halftime.

Second Half started and they came out a bit stronger eager to make up for losing. The first few half chances feel there way but really Josh didn’t have to make a real save as the back four were back to there reliable selves. A couple of times we played ourselves into trouble when we should be clearing our lines. After about 15 mins Tom broke though the middle slotted the ball home 1.4

From here on in the opposition heads dropped and we could of scored quite a few more. 25 Mins gone and Tom won the ball played it to Faizan who played out to the right Connor then brought the ball forward and rolled it across the face of the goal to Reynolds who timed his run well and smashed it in. That was a great team goal 1.5

Some more pressure from us and the goalie pulled off three saves when it looked like we going to score, Connor then had one saved by the goalkeeper, the final passage of play put the icing on the cake. Reynolds floated in a great free kick and bounced it off Gabe’s head (don’t believe Gabe headed a ball) scoring his first headed goal of the season. Referee blew his whistle 1.6

All in all good performance by you all. Everyone worked hard and encouraged each other. Next Game home next week to Aldenham details to be arranged. which will leave the home fixture with Mill Hill also to be arranged. Lets win our last two

Training Tomorrow on the Astro

Its was a cold start but it definitely got better both the football and the weather …….

Today’s squad was Tom, Jack, Morgan Edonis, Joey, Charney, Louis, Faizan, Connor,Joel, Reynolds, Kevin & Gabe.

We arrived to a frozen pitch and a very disorganized home team, No nets, no Corner flags and no Ref, So our fantastic asst Coach (thats me) stepped in to ref the game.

The match started and we were attacking straight away and had the pressure. A couple of chances came Reynolds went just wide and Connor hit the post. Joel was having great joy down the right wing just needed to get the ball in a bit quicker. The best chance probably came to them after some slack play in defense allowed them to run on and shoot but Tom made a really good save. Nick ran the changes and it was Gabe who gave us the break we thoroughly deserved. The ball bounced around in the box and Gabe poked it home 1.0. We were very much controlling the game at this point and i thought Louis played well as the CDM covering the ground and pushing play forward.

After 25 mins we attacked again and Theo followed in a shot from outside the box which the keeper could only parry. 2.0 We should of been putting this team to bed but we didn’t convert our chances and kept allowing them hope with sloppy defending and gifting them the ball. Defenders should not be turning into trouble or passing to the opposition. It was from one of these defensive lapses that they got there best chance of the half. The forward was clean through Tom came out but the striker shot very early and the ball tricked wide of the post – Very lucky Half Time 2.0

Lets just say Nick was pleased that we were winning but not by the football being played and the unforced errors that crept into our game. Nick changed the defense around played a few players in different positions just to liven a few players up ! Also the pitch started to soften up after the first 35 mins and became more playable.

Second half started and very soon we got the third goal Gabe finishing well 3.0. The next chance fell to them and they should of scored, Tom made a fantastic triple save and then the player put the ball wide. Faizan took the ball forward from the half way line and unleashed a great shot from the edge of the box 4.0 The game was over but you all kept going Nick wanted to get the clean sheet and you all wanted to score, but you all kept to the rolls that you were asked to play and the chances came.

Theo followed in shot and beat their player to the ball 5.0, Reynolds got two in quick succession left foot as he drove in from the left and a right foot finish after a great through ball from Connor 7.0. With five minutes to go we had a penalty, Joel assisted by allowing himself to be smashed to the ground by the goalkeeper, With the regular penalty taker in goal, Connor was the designated taker after some banter from his OWN team he coolly slotted. 8.0

All you tails were up and straight from kick off Charney won the ball and went past one, two, three players possibly four and fired the ball home (Reminded me of John Barnes in Brazil 1984 – Ask your dads) absolutely great goal. 9.0

With two minutes to go you still had two chances Kevin hit the bar and over from a corner and Edonis curled a shot just wide of the post. after this last effort the Ref blew for full time 9.0

Well done everyone some real solid performances today and a much better second half Joey played well at left back, Theo worked hard and Louis at either center midfield or right back, but todays MoTM went to Reynolds led the line well took his goals well and worked tirelessly even put a shift in center midfield when asked to do so.

One thing to work on is cut out the silly balls and errors and better team will punish us for these.

A new defensive training is being run on Astro on Thursday 7PM to 8PM anyone interested please let Nick or myself know.

Not the result we were hoping for but these thing happen …….

Today squad was Josh, Jack, Morgan, Edonis, Tom, Joey, Charney, Connor, Faizan, Louis, Kevin, Gabe, Theo and Reynolds

Game started after a short delay due to no corner flags and nets. It was a very wide pitch, big goals and very heavy in the middle of the park. We spoke before the game about playing into space behind the defence but unfortunately we couldn’t action the plan.

The first half was a very tight affair Faizan had a couple of chance to shoot but the ball got stuck under his feet. The best chance of the half fell to Kevin. The ball was played in from the right and Kevin was unmarked at the front post, however the ball came to at an awkward height and he hit it in his knee. The ball trickled agonizing wide of the post. The next few chances fell to the opposition who put a shot just over the top and hit the cross bar with another effort. After 25 Minutes Gabe broke down the left and cut in, the defender tripped him up in the box penalty. Tom took the penalty but it wasn’t one of his best and but it at a good height for the keeper. In the last minute we gave away a silly corner after a bit of confusion in defence and a good whipped in ball found their striker at the back post 1.0 half time blew.

Second half started but i felt we didn’t. We sat far to far back nearly all the second half and didn’t push them out enough.No real chances came about because you defended well but they kept coming back as we gave the ball away to them rather then putting it into space. “If you have no options play the ball down a wing, we may win a throw or create a throw, but either way we can push up and start from a higher position on the pitch”

You continued to battle but after 15 mins the pressure told a challenge by Morgan in the box and it was a penalty. The striker put it down the middle 2.0. From here Nick changed it to 4.4.2 to try and get some more options. We nearly broke a couple of times with Charney and Faizan, Gabe nearly profited from a mix up in there defence but it wasn’t to be. We had another shout for a penalty but the ref waved it away. Two minute to go the ball got crossed in and after a scramble they put it away 3.0 Game Over. They were a good team who had two or three good players, but on another day if we were in form in could of been different.

MoTM – No one stood out for me

I felt you all looked a bit out of sorts, I don’t think not playing and training this week has helped and we havent really got back to the football we were playing before Christmas. The pitch didn’t suit our normal passing game but we must all adapt.

I want heads back up we have four really winner-able games to come. Lets finish with 12 points, I want you all to go back to encouraging each other and work for each other !!!!!
